KENYA RAILWAYS RESUMES OPERATIONS AT KIJABE LONGONOT AREA FOLLOWING HEAVY RAINS DISRUPTIONS

The Kenya railways has today run a test drive along the uplands kijabe Longonot area which was rendered impassible following heavy rainfalls in April / may 2024 which tragically swept a whole village at mahi mahiu following an overflow of tunnel which could not hold water and bursted during the night.

Speaking to journalist during the test drive at kijabe Kenya railways Managing Director Philip Mainga said the construction of new modern tunnels which are made of steps to reduce the water pressure as it descends down to avert future calamities is it hundred percent completion.Mr Mainga expressed confidence of resumption of best service after a whole year of suspension which has seen the project construction by a Chinese company meandering through the mountains deliver state of art tunnels.

The incident affected cargo transport from Mombasa to neighboring countries of Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan and Democratic republic of Congo.
